In the News

lyrics by Mark A. Nash

Verse 1

I woke up one morning in despair

When I realized that you didn't care

You told me the same story last year

Trying to live off of my fears

I ain't got no money

Break

I ain't got no money, I don't know

why these fools keep asking me for money

    humph

Verse 2

I ain't got no money

and today these times seem so hard

I'm living check to check and day by day

Well I guess I need a second job

I'm facing more problems than solutions

and the answer doesn't seem quite clear

Maybe I'll go for a walk y'all

or maybe I'll just have me a beer

Break

Man, I don't even drink beer

Verse 3

Everyday I deal with depression

and oppression ain't too far behind

I'm part of an over-stimulated population

and it seems like I'm loosing my mind

I'm trying not to watch the news these days

they keep trying to blame the problems on me

This country's not doing as well as it use to

they keep trying to blame the problems on me

Break

Man, I had nothing to do with any of those

    corporate scandals

Verse 4

            dot com scandals, stock

scandals, mutual fund scandals, brokerage firm scandals

Catholic church scandals, accounting firms scandals

and in the news they keep trying to blame the

    problems on me

drug dealers and gang bangers you're in the

    wrong profession

They keep trying to blame the problems on me

They keep trying to blame the problems on me

Break

Verse 5

No society is perfect just as no religion is perfect

My intent was merely to say that the problems

with this country can not and should

not be placed squarely on the shoulders

of African Americans or specifically young

    African American men

I believe we do do our share of dirt just like

any other culture, but an unbiased media

    would air everyone's dirty laundry

    instead of profiting from sensationalized

    journalism by

Using one culture's fear against another culture in

addition to using the fear of dying to boost

    advertising revenue

Now, I'm starting to ramble

In a nutshell, we live in a very aggressive

    and competitive society

We must all find a level of

peace in the midst of this chaos
